Masterplans for New Towns

MASTERPLANS FOR NEW TOWNS

Over the last decade it has become increasingly apparent to many commentators that part of the solution to meeting Britain’s housing shortfall is to develop new towns in strategic locations across the country.

Originally reimagined as eco-towns at the start of the millennium, the idea of new towns has gradually morphed into a growing support from central government for garden cities and garden towns located in key strategic locations across the UK.

Key delivery issues associated with delivering projects of this scale still remain however, as land assembly, forward funding of enabling infrastructure and the need for cross-boundary working between local authorities can lead to significant lead-in times before development can commence on site.

Spawforths’ planning and urbanism teams have  considerable experience working on large scale developments of up to 10,000 new homes and were shortlisted in the government's eco-town initiative with the only North of England proposal to reach the final six in the selection process.  We are currently working on the development of a new settlement in the north of England with a combination of private and public sector partners
