Adrian Spawforth BA(Hons), BArch(Hons), MA, ARB, RIBA, MRTPI, is an Urbanist, a Chartered Town Planner and a Chartered Architect with specialisms in masterplanning, development frameworks and regeneration. He is also the Managing Director of Spawforths where he has worked since its formation in 1988. Over the last few years Adrian has worked for a variety of public and private sector clients including Yorkshire Forward, Cumbria Tourist Board/North West Development Agency, UK COAL, and a large number of national and regional house builders in the preparation of strategic masterplans and development frameworks. He has recently completed masterplans for Windermere and Bowness, the Isle of Axholme, the Colne Valley, Bedale, Penistone and Otley.

David Rolinson, BA (Hons), Dip PEL, MRTPI, is a Chartered Town Planner and Planning and Regeneration Director at Spawforths and has over 20 years of public and private sector experience. He is also Deputy Chairman of Spawforths where he has worked since its formation in 1988. David predominantly advises Corporate Developer and Housebuilder Clients such as Langtree Group Plc, Harworth Estates/ UK Coal, Rosemound, George Wimpey, Bellway, and Barratts in urban regeneration, renewal, masterplanning and Development Plan issues. Some of his current projects include: a new sustainable community at the site of the former Liverpool Garden Festival to enable the creation of a new iconic urban park; An Eco-Town at Rossington in Doncaster to address current regeneration needs and facilitate a future sustainable community; A new Rugby League Stadium for St Helens enabled by a new major Superstore and the creation of an opportunity for expansion of St Helens Town Centre; a regionallly significant rail linked warehouse and distribution park at Crewe; and the planned development of a sustainable, mixed-use urban extension to Deeside in Wales.

Rachel Illsley BSc(Hons) PgC, is the Finance Director and Company Secretary of Spawforths and head of the business and finance team. Originally qualifying as an Industrial Designer, Rachel progressed her career with studies in both marketing and finance. Rachel is responsible for the Strategic Financial, Marketing, Personnel, Health and Safety and IT activities within the company. She runs a team of internal and external staff and consultants to assist her in this role. She is responsible for maintaining a positive office environment and actively promotes the company values of friendliness, professional Integrity, commercial understanding, creativity and sustainability.

Paul Bedwell BA (Hons), Dip TRP, MRTPI , is a Chartered Town Planner and Director at Spawforths. Paul joined Spawforths in 1999 and has 20 years experience as a planning practitioner in the public and private sectors. Paul’s current priorities include: the planned development of Bailey Cross - a sustainable, mixed-use urban extension to Pontefract for UK COAL at the Former Prince of Wales Colliery; promotion of residential development at Bentley, near Doncaster for the Homes and Communities Agency; and advocacy to support the development of sites for Woodford Land, Strata and Priority Sites. Paul appeared at the RSS EiPs for the North East and Yorkshire & the Humber regions; has given evidence as an Expert Witness in the High Court; and is Vice Chair of Sheffield Civic Trust.


Dawn Jenkins, ARB, RIBA, MCMI , is a Chartered Architect, a Chartered Manager and Design Director at Spawforths with over eleven years experience of delivering design and construction services to public and private sector clients throughout the North of England and the Midlands. She has a proven track record for delivering creative, sustainable and innovative design solutions to a portfolio of projects ranging from minor refurbishments to multi million pound new build projects. Dawn is currently completing an MSc in Sustainability at Huddersfield University and is responsible for championing sustainable design solutions within the Design Team. In her role as Head of the Design Department Dawn has a proven track record as an experienced manager of people and resources with an ability to achieve goals in a cost effective and efficient manner. Through her natural communication skills, and entrepreneurial approach Dawn successfully develops partnerships and co-operative contracting agreements with clients, consultants and contractors, to enable the delivery of robust architectural solutions to a range of projects for the benefit of the client.

Peter Spawforth MBE RIBA FRTPI is an Architect Planner and a Director and Chairman of Spawforths. He is past president of several national planning organizations including the British Council of Shopping Centres and the Metropolitan Planning Officers Association. His urban planning schemes have been implemented in central Leeds and Wakefield where as Chief Planning Officer he was awarded MBE at the age of 46. His specialism is the delivery of projects on time and he has negotiated for clients and local authorities involved in compulsory purchase, latterly including the Wakefield Waterfront project. Public and private clients use him in major multi-disciplinary trouble shooting.
